10. Installation is a reversal of the removal procedure, tightening the mounting bolts to their specified torque. Note: The supporting jack under the lower suspension arm/coil spring can be raised or lowered to install the shock absorber if required. Note: The final tightening of the mounting bolts must be carried out with the vehicle weight on the wheels, or you can raise the rear suspension with the jack to simulate normal ride height before tightening the fasteners to the torque.

Have an assistant move the wheel in and out while looking for any movement.

Examine the strut for signs of fluid leakage, check the strut piston rod for signs of pitting along its entire length, and inspect the strut body for signs of damage. Test the operation of the strut by moving the piston through a full stroke and then through short strokes of 2 to 4 inches. The resistance felt should be smooth and continuous; if it is jerky, uneven, or if there are visible signs of wear or damage, replacement is necessary.

Unscrew and remove the pinch-bolt securing the steering knuckle assembly to the front suspension strut, noting which way it is installed. Then, lever the steering knuckle/hub assembly down to release it from the strut. If necessary, tap the knuckle downward with a soft-headed mallet to separate the two components.
