Remove the ignition wires from the coil pack and the spark plugs.

Refill the cooling system and connect the battery.

Remove the exhaust pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts. If the nuts are rusty and stuck, spray them with penetrating oil and wait a half-hour or so, then try again.

The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

Clean the manifold and head mating surfaces and check the manifold for cracks. Note: The mating surfaces of the head and manifold must be perfectly clean when the manifold is installed. Gasket removal solvents in aerosol cans are available at most auto parts stores and may be helpful when removing old gasket material that's stuck to the head and manifold. Be careful not to scrape or gouge the sealing surfaces.

Remove the injector retaining clip(s) if equipped, then carefully pull the injector out with a rocking motion.

Disconnect the fuel rails and lines, and cap the lines to prevent entry of dirt.

Detach the electrical connectors from the alternator.

Remove the ignition coil and mounting bracket. Remove the upper intake manifold.

Install the manifold gasket immediately after applying the sealant to ensure proper adhesion.

The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal steps.
