    Q:
What should be done if ridges are found in the cylinder for the 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
If carbon deposits or cylinder wear have produced ridges, they must be completely removed with a special tool called a ridge reamer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions provided with the tool. Failure to remove the ridges before attempting to remove the piston/connecting rod assemblies may result in piston breakage. Note: Do not let the tool cut into the ring travel area more than 1/32-inch.

    Q:
What should be done if the engine is being rebuilt due to a connecting rod knock for the 2008 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the engine is being rebuilt because of a connecting rod knock, new rods should be installed.

    Q:
What should I do after removing the pistons for the 2003 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
After removal, reassemble the connecting rod caps and bearing inserts in their respective connecting rods and install the cap nuts finger tight. Leaving the old bearing inserts in place until reassembly will help prevent the connecting rod bearing surfaces from being accidentally nicked or gouged.

    Q:
How should the rod cap be installed for the oil clearance check for the 1998 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Clean the connecting rod cap bearing face, remove the protective hoses from the connecting rod bolts, and install the rod cap. Make sure the mating mark on the cap is on the same side as the mark on the connecting rod. Install the nuts and tighten them to the torque, working up to it in three steps.

    Q:
What should be done after installing the rod cap for the 2001 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Tighten the nuts to the specified torque, working up to it in three steps, and repeat the entire procedure for the remaining pistons/connecting rods.

    Q:
When are new pistons not necessary for the 2005 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the pistons and cylinder walls aren't damaged or worn excessively and if the engine block is not rebored, new pistons won't be necessary. Normal piston wear appears as even vertical wear on the piston thrust surfaces and slight looseness of the top ring in its groove. New piston rings, however, should always be used when an engine is rebuilt.
