    Q:
How to remove and install a vibration damper on a crankshaft on Lincoln Continental Overhead cam (OHC) engine? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the bolts attaching the fan shroud to the radiator and position the shroud back over the fan. Remove the fan/clutch assembly and the shroud. Remove the accessory drivebelt. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, and using a suitable puller, detach the vibration damper. After the bolt has been removed, use a puller that bolts to the damper to remove the damper from the end of the crankshaft. Leave the Woodruff key in place in the crankshaft keyway. Caution: Don't use a puller with jaws that grip the outer edge of the damper. The puller must be the type shown in the illustration that utilizes bolts to apply force to the damper hub only.Installation: Lubricate the oil seal contact surface of the vibration damper hub with moly-base grease or clean engine oil. Apply a silicone based sealer to the crankshaft keyway before installing the damper. Install the damper on the end of the crankshaft. The keyway in the damper must be aligned with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft nose. If the damper cannot be seated by hand, slip the large washer over the bolt, install the bolt and tighten it to pull the damper into place. Tighten the bolt to the torque. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of removal. Check the oil level. Run the engine and check for oil leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and reinstall a vibration damper on a crankshaft on Lincoln Mark VII Overhead valve (OHV)engines? Posted by Customer
    A:
Go ahead and remove the shroud bolts of the fan, then put it over the fan. Remove the drivebelts, fan/clutch assembly, and shroud. If you are to remember only one thing about this process, it should be the mark on the vibration damper and crankshaft pulley. Then snatch off the pulley and front crankshaft bolt. Before yanking off these four pulley bolts, mark that pulley. Next, gently pull it away using a puller to separate it from the engine access hole. Once done with lubing its hub, set up this damper on its hooked position as placed on the crankshaft by gluing together a washer and bolt. Use a hammer instead if necessary to push through. Finally, your way back around to cooling system service steps before adding enough coolant for testing any possible leakages.
