Before adjusting the size of the gap to adjust the crankshaft pulley, it is necessary to decommission the drivebelt. Secondly, take out the crankshaft pulley bolt. Thread a longer shorter diameter bolt into the crankshaft to act as a stop for the puller then use a puller for this purpose to remove the crankshaft pulley. Do not try to pry the pulley off or use perchance a impact puller. Coat with clean engine oil the interface contact surface of the pulley that engages the front seal before fitting the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft without hammering, then, tighten the pulley bolt to the recommended torque. To replace front oil seal, first, remove the crankshaft pulley, the oil seal then is removed by prying it out with a screwdriver being cautious not to damage the cover in the process. Scrub the seal bore and check for roughness or injuries on it with sharp edges or scratches. Apply clean engine oil to the lip of the new seal and insert it into the bore with a socket or a piece of pipe which is slightly smaller in diameter than the seal with the open side of the seal pointing towards the engine. Last of all, the crankshaft pulley ought to be repositioned back.

Remove the 6mm locating bolt from the pulley, and the remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Unscrew the pulley bolt and remove the pulley, noting which way round it is fitted.

With the crankshaft pulley alignment bolt (M6 x 18mm) installed, install the camshaft alignment tool and check the position of the camshafts. If the tool cannot be installed, the engine timing must be corrected by repeating Steps 9 through 19.

Coat the lip of the new seal with clean engine oil and drive it into the bore with a socket or large piece of pipe slightly smaller in diameter than the seal. The open side of the seal faces into the engine. Install the crankshaft pulley (see Step 4 above).

Failure to hold the crankshaft pulley securely could result in engine damage. Additionally, never rely on the timing pin or camshaft service tool to lock the crankshaft, as they are designed for calibration only.

Install the timing pin into the cylinder block.

Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and check for oil leaks.

The PCM must relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum driveability and performance.

Remove the timing pin from the cylinder block and the camshaft alignment tool.
