Remove the axleshaft as previously described. Use a seal removal tool to pry out the old oil seal from the axle housing. Use a seal driver or large socket to position the new seal, ensuring the lips face inwards and the metal face is visible. The seal should be flush with the axle housing end when correctly installed. Lubricate the seal lips with gear oil before reinstalling the axleshaft.

Remove the axleshaft. Use a special slide hammer type puller to take out the axleshaft seal; if only seal replacement is needed, proceed to the next step. If both the bearing and seal need removal, they can be taken out simultaneously using a slide hammer in conjunction with a bearing removal tool. Pivot the jaws of the tool sideways and insert them behind the bearing, allowing the jaws to engage the bearing for removal. Inspect the inner surface of the housing for any issues that could hinder the new seal or bearing from fitting properly, addressing any problems such as burrs, galling, or rust before installing the new components. If replaced, lubricate the new bearing with rear axle lube and install it squarely into the axle housing bore, using a bearing/seal driver to tap it in until it bottoms out, ensuring it is pressed in squarely. Before installing the seal, apply a small amount of RTV sealant on the outer edge (avoiding the sealing lip) and coat the inner sealing lip with multi-purpose grease. Use an appropriate seal driver to tap the new seal into its bore, ensuring even pressure around its circumference until it is fully seated. Finally, install the axleshaft(s).

Using solvent, clean all the old grease from the bearings and inspect for pits, cracks, sparks, and flat spots. Replace if excessive wear is observed.

Install the hub nut and adjust the wheel bearing preload.

Inspect the inner surface of the housing for any conditions that would prevent the new seal or bearing from fitting into its seat correctly. Remedy any problems of this type such as burrs, galling, or rust before attempting to install the new bearing or seal.

First, remove both axleshafts. If the stub axle is an early externally retained type, remove the stub axle. If the stub axle is a later internally (C-clip) retained type, remove the axle carrier and the right side stub axle assembly from the axle carrier.

The final steps involve reinstalling the cover and bolts, applying a continuous bead of silicone sealant, and tightening the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. It is crucial to refill the axle with the correct lubricant to ensure proper functioning and longevity of the rear axle components.

Using a drill of 1/4 to 1/2-inch diameter, drill a hole in the outside diameter of the inner retainer approximating 3/4 of the thickness of the retainer ring. Do not drill all the way through the retainer ring, as the drill would damage the axleshaft.

Drive out the bearing races from the wheel hub with a brass drift and install the new races with a bearing driver.

Pull the hub and disc assembly off the spindle. The outer wheel-bearing assembly will slide out as the hub is removed.

Use a chisel positioned across the drilled hole and strike it sharply to split the retainer ring.

Install the front wheel spindle and hub assemblies.
