    Q:
How can the fuel pump be tested for proper engine performance for the 1987 Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start with pressure and volume tests. For the pressure test, connect a pressure gauge, restrictor, and flexible hose between the fuel filler and carburetor. Run the engine at idle speed, briefly open the hose restrictor to vent the system into a container, close the restrictor, and note the pressure reading. If the pump pressure falls outside the range of 4.5-6.5 psi and the fuel lines are in good condition, the pump is defective and should be replaced. For the volume test, measure the time it takes to pump 1 pint of fuel into a container while the engine is operating at idle rpm. It should be expelled in 30 seconds. If the pump fails to meet specifications, check for proper fuel tank venting or fuel line restrictions before considering pump replacement.
