To service an oxygen sensor, warm the engine before removal to prevent damage. Avoid harming the pigtail or electrical connector and keep contaminants away from the sensor. Do not use cleaning solvents. Handle the sensor carefully and ensure the silicone boot is correctly installed. To replace the upstream sensor, locate it, disconnect the connector, and unscrew the sensor with a wrench or sensor socket. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads if reusing. Repeat the process for the downstream sensor.

1. Locate the upstream oxygen sensor you wish to replace and disconnect the electrical connector. 2. Use a special oxygen sensor socket to unscrew the sensor. 3. Clean the threads of the sensor bore in the exhaust manifold after removing the old sensor. 4. If reinstalling the old sensor, apply anti-seize compound to the threads. If installing a new sensor, it is not necessary as new sensors already have anti-seize compound. 5. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the upstream sensor to the specified torque.

The upstream oxygen sensors are located on the exhaust manifolds, above or below the manifold flanges at the upper ends of the catalytic converters.

Raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the engine under-cover.

Oxygen sensors are delicate, so you should handle them with care and avoid dropping them.
