Unscrew and remove the pinch-bolt securing the steering knuckle assembly to the front suspension strut, noting which way it is installed. Then, lever the steering knuckle/hub assembly down to release it from the strut. If necessary, tap the knuckle downward with a soft-headed mallet to separate the two components.

If the front suspension struts exhibit signs of wear (such as leaking fluid, loss of damping capability, sagging, or cracked coil springs), they should be disassembled and overhauled as necessary. The struts themselves cannot be serviced and should be replaced if faulty; however, the springs and related components can be replaced individually. To maintain balanced characteristics on both sides of the vehicle, the components on both sides should be replaced at the same time.

1. Open the trunk or liftgate and remove the interior trim panel to access the shock absorber top mounting nut. 2. Use an Allen key to hold the piston rod and remove the shock absorber upper mounting nut. 3. Chock the front wheels, jack up the rear of the vehicle, and support it on axle stands. Remove the wheels as required. 4. Place a jack under the lower suspension arm/coil spring for support. Unscrew and remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt, then withdraw the shock absorber from under the vehicle.

Replace both struts at that end of the vehicle.
