If a new spring is to be installed, release the original spring from the compressor; otherwise, it can remain in compression.

Ensure the vehicle is parked on level ground with the engine off and the parking brake engaged while verifying tire pressures.

Have the front end alignment checked, and if necessary, adjusted.

If the shock absorber is going to be replaced on 2015 and later models, remove the piston rod nut and separate the upper mounting bracket.

1. Guide the assembly up into the fenderwell. 2. Align the previously made match marks. 3. Insert the upper mounting studs through the holes in the body. 4. Once the studs protrude, install the new nuts to prevent the shock from falling back through, but don't tighten them yet. 5. Use the jack to position the steering knuckle. 6. Install the two lower mounting bolts and nuts. 7. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque. 8. Install the wheel and lug nuts. 9. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. 10. Finally, tighten the upper mounting nuts to the specified torque.

While an assistant turns the steering wheel, check for free movement, chafing, and binding in the steering components.

Signs of wear include leaking fluid, loss of damping capability, or issues like sagging or cracked coil springs.
