    Q:
How to remove and install an ignition switch on Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
    A:
The ignition switch can be removed by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. The covers of the steering column and knee bolster should be removed. For old models, the column is lowered after removing the retention nuts. On new models, remove the metal reinforcement panel. Remove the switch screws and unplug its electrical connector. Disengage the actuator pin from the switch. To install, ensure the new switch is in the "Run" position. Place it on the actuator pin and install retaining screws. With that done connect the electrical connector then install the upper steering column cover. Lastly, raise the column and install nuts for retaining purposes. Install lower column covers then insulator panel.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder on Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
As a process of replacement of the ignition switch, the user is advised to pull the cable off the negative terminal of the battery. Next, take out the centre trim panel and the driver's side knee bolster and the next are the steering column covers, and the tilt-column handle if any. Rotate the ignition key to the Run position and disconnect the electrical connector to the ignition switch and then remove the retaining screws. Remove the ignition switch from the actuator pin by pulling out the mentioned part of the switch from the car. Check that the actuator pin slot in the new ignition switch is located in the Run position, insert the new ignition switch on the actuator pin and tighten the retaining screws and using space provided, calibrate the screws for the alignment of the screw holes. That completes the removal of the cruise control but do the reverse in order to finish the installation and test the unit function in the lock, start and accessory positions. For the Ignition Lock Cylinder as well this requires disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal, rotating the key to the run position and driving a 1/8-inch punch into the hole at the bottom of the steering column cover surround the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Pull out on the Ignition Lock Cylinder while depressing the punch to eject it. To remove the cylinder for replacement, push on the pin near the last of the cylinder and turning a quarter counterclockwise from the Stop position to the Run position and the cylinder falls out of the interlocking washer which must be seated firmly. Finally, using the position of the key that is labelled 'Off', re-align it back to this state to enable proper positioning of the retaining pin into the situated locating hole; the same key should now be turned to confirm a proper working lock in all the respective created positions, finally, reinstalling the lock using the reverse procedure highlighted above.
