    Turn the crankshaft clockwise through 180 degrees so that the valves of cylinder number 3 are pointing upwards and measure and record the valve clearances for cylinder number 3. Repeat this for cylinders 4 and 2 after turning the crankshaft through 180° each time.

    The valve clearances are checked the same way as on the 2.0L engine, but instead of removable shims, cam followers with heads of differing thicknesses are used to set the desired clearance. The same formula used to calculate shim thickness is used to calculate desired follower head thickness. To change the cam followers, the camshafts have to be removed.
