    Q:
How do you replace the wiper motor and windshield washer reservoir or washer pump on Ford Taurus? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace wiper motor the cable must be disconnected from the negative terminal of the battery. Before, loosening the wiper nut arm, align the wiper to the wiper linkage pivot with the shafts then unscrew the nut holding the wiper arm. Also, take off the connecting wiring between the parking lamp and the washer switch, in addition to the plastic cowl cover and three bolts on the wiper linkage assembly. Swing the entire linkage arm and motor assembly down and forward to pull the main electrical connection plug, and then take out the wiper motor and linkage assembly together. Remove three bolts that fasten the wiper motor and one nut that connect the linkage arm to the motor shaft when the wiper motor is in the park position remove the linkage arm. Gently prise off the linkage by inserting a trim removal tool or screwdriver between it and the motor's crank arm. When a replacement motor is needed, it should be installed on the linkage and the assembly should then be reinstalled so that all the bolts holding the linkage arms are tightened, and the electrical connections are made properly the vicinity around the linkage arms should not have any tools or loose items lying on it. Set the ignition on but do not start the engine: move the wiper switch from the high speed position to the stand still position in order to make sure that the wiper motor is parked: then fit back the cowl cover and the wiper blades. From the bottom of the windshield, the proper adjustment for the wiper arm is at 1-1/2 inch for the passenger blade and at 2 inches for the driver side wiper arm. Repeat the cycling of the wiper switch in order to ensure the correct alignment and if some adjustments have to be made, then it is very necessary to detach the arms and reposition them. For windshield washer reservoir or washer pump replacement on 2007 and earlier models, remove the bolts securing the coolant expansion tank and lift it up, keep this part but do not disconnect the hoses from it. Remove the electrical connector for the washer fluid sensor, then undo the single bracket which holds the high-side refrigerant line to the reservoir and take off the three washers which connect the reservoir in place. Turn the valves off, and drain out the water from the washer reservoir; also, remove the washer pump's electrical connection. If needed, remove the washer pump, which is fixed with the help of a rubber gasket on the case of the tank. For production on and after 8/2008, erase the lower front air deflector leaf and the inner fender splash shield at the right side, and then relay twice the washer fluid level sensor connector and the washer pump connector. Remove the washer pump hose and empty the reservoir and then undo the reservoir bolt, and the two washer type nuts before pulling the reservoir from the bottom. Should this be needed, then the washer pump needs to be replaced: it is attached to the tank with the help of rubber grommet. Removal of both model years is the reverse of installation.
