    Q:
How to remove and install an ignition switch on Lincoln Continental? Posted by Customer
    A:
The ignition switch can be removed by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. The covers of the steering column and knee bolster should be removed. For old models, the column is lowered after removing the retention nuts. On new models, remove the metal reinforcement panel. Remove the switch screws and unplug its electrical connector. Disengage the actuator pin from the switch. To install, ensure the new switch is in the "Run" position. Place it on the actuator pin and install retaining screws. With that done connect the electrical connector then install the upper steering column cover. Lastly, raise the column and install nuts for retaining purposes. Install lower column covers then insulator panel.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch on Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
    A:
Put the negative cable away from the battery, then pop off the covers on the steering column. Rotate the ignition key lock cylinder to the On (Run) position, and remove the ignition switch electrical connector. The switch is fastened to the lock cylinder housing with break-off head bolts; if you wish to dismantle the switch, utilize a 1/8-inch drill to drill out the two bolts which are to be removed with an easy-out tool. Pull off the ignition switch from the actuator pin and; turn the actuator pin slot up on the new ignition switch as a new switch assembly will be set On (Run). Fit the new switch in its position and screw the break off head bolts one and tighten them until the heads of the nuts break off. Connect the electrical connector to the switch, replace the steering column cover and the end the negative cable.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch on Mercury Lynx? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the negative cable from the battery, the next step involves the removal of the five screws that holds the lower shroud of the steering column before taking of the shroud. Next, take off two bolts and nuts of the steering column with the support bracket that was mentioned earlier and then lower the column. Depower the electrical connector of the ignition switch and the turn the key lock cylinder to ON (RUN). For the models of 1981-1986, use a 1/8-inch drill to remove the shear-head bolts joining the switch to the lock cylinder housing and, then, take out these bolts using an EX-3 easy-out tool or any other similar to it. In cases where the ignition switch is installed on the upper part of the models of 1987 to 1990, two screws should be unscrewed to detach the ignition switch from the actuator pin. Assure that the actuator pin slot of the new ignition switch is in a Run position because a new replacement switch assembly is designed to be in On (Run) position. Ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in a position that you would like it be in in the vehicle, this being approximately the RUN position which you get when you rotate the ignition key lock cylinder some 90 degrees counter clockwise from the LOCK position. Screw the ignition switch onto the actuator pin, and slightly flip the switch if it is necessary to align with the mounting holes. For the models produced from 1981 to 1986, screw in the shear head bolts to the desired torque and pop the heads off. For the models of 1987-1990, tighten the bolts as tightly as possible andto the torque indicated. Endure that the electrical connector is connected to the switch, reconnect the negative cable of the battery, insert the key in the ignition and operate the switch in the ignition positions including the START and ACC and ensure the steering column is locked at lock position. Lastly, lift the steering column up and invest the two bolts and nuts that fasten it to the support bracket and tighten until the recommended torque is attained then fit the lower shroud of the steering column and screws.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the ignition switch on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the ignition switch the following steps was followed; one was to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. After that, it is necessary to take off the steering column on both sides and the knee bolster. For models from 1996 and earlier you have to remove the retaining nuts and then lower the column to get to the switch screws. In those models that were manufactured from 1997-2004, the switch lies to the right of the steering column and to get at it, one has to pull out the metal reinforcement panel behind the knee bolster. Disconnect the cruiser multi-function, insert the ignition key to the RUN position, loosen the two switch installing screws; the ignition switch pulls out from the actuator pin. In installation, make sure that the actuator pin slot of the new ignition switch is in the RUN position and simply place the new switch over the actuator pin and tight the retain screws in place while switching the position of the new switch up and down to match the position of the screw holes. I then replaced the electrical connector to the switch, put the upper steering column cover into position and tighten the nuts to hold the steering column into position. Last, reattach the lower column covers along with the succeeding lowering of the insulator panel, and reconnection to the negative terminal of the battery.

    Q:
How to remove and install the ignition switch on Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the ignition switch in the 1983-88 models, turn the lock cylinder key to the Lock position and then turn the negative terminal of the battery. According to the model the upper extension shroud can be detached by squeezing it at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions for tilt columns. Next, the two trim shroud halves can be removed by releasing those two attaching screws, and by disconnecting the ignition switch electrical connector. Remove the break-off head bolts that interconnect the switch with the lock cylinder housing by a ¼ in. screw, followed by the removal of the two bolts with an Ex-3 Easy-out tool or any of its equivalent or betterment. Remove the contacts between the actuator pin and the ignition switch. To install, insert the ignition key into the start position and then turn the key to the run position, the replacement switch hole should fit into a lock cylinder hole, and make sure that the actuator pin fits into an 'U' shaped slot on the carrier switch. Put new break-off head bolts and fasten until the heads shear off, join the electrical connector, and reconnect the negative battery terminal, check ign switch before fitting the steering column trim shrouds. For 1989-90 models remove the negative battery cable and the steering wheel as well as any dash panel which might be required. If needed adjust the steering column down, remove the connectors from the ignition switch and unscrew the retaining screws. Pull the ignition switch out of the switch rod and extract it from the car. To install, position the lock cylinder in the LOCK position and set the switch by inserting a wire in the opening till it drops into the slot, position the ignition switch on the studs of the column and over the actuating rod and tighten the nut to 35-75 inch lbs. Last but not the least turn off the device remove the wire from the slot and do the rest of the process in reverse.
