    Q:
What is the purpose and function of the EGA (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system and EGR Valve on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
The EGA system reduces NOx emissions by recirculating exhaust gases. EGA flow rate is determined by monitoring pressure across a metering orifice. There are two systems: PFE and DPFE. EEC system detects EGR issues and sets trouble codes. Excessive flow causes rough engine operation, while insufficient flow leads to elevated temperatures. Checks involve evaluating the EGR valve, vacuum hoses, and control system. EGR valve is controlled by EVR and PCM. EGR control system uses PFE or DPFE. Components are checked for voltage, resistance, and performance. Replacements include EGR valve, EVR, and DPFE sensor. Safety precautions and protective gear are essential. Care is emphasized during cleaning to prevent damage.

    Q:
What are the components of the EGR system and EGR Valve and how can they be removed and installed on Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
    A:
The EGR valve is on the exhaust manifold, connected to the throttle housing by a pipe. The solenoid valve is on the firewall, connected to the EGR valve and brake booster vacuum hose. To remove it, disconnect the hoses and wiring plug, unscrew the bolts, and access the EGR valve by removing the air cleaner outlet tube and disconnecting the coolant hose. Disconnect the vacuum hose, loosen the clamp nut, unscrew the bolts, and remove the valve. If present, the differential pressure sensor is next to the solenoid valve. To remove the EGR valve supply pipe, remove the EGR valve, separate the joint, remove the engine lifting eye, loosen the EGR pipe clamp bolt, disconnect the wiring plugs, and release the brake booster vacuum pipe connection. Installation is the reverse of removal.
