    Q:
How to remove and reinstall a vibration damper on a crankshaft on Lincoln Continental Overhead valve (OHV)engines? Posted by Customer
    A:
Go ahead and remove the shroud bolts of the fan, then put it over the fan. Remove the drivebelts, fan/clutch assembly, and shroud. If you are to remember only one thing about this process, it should be the mark on the vibration damper and crankshaft pulley. Then snatch off the pulley and front crankshaft bolt. Before yanking off these four pulley bolts, mark that pulley. Next, gently pull it away using a puller to separate it from the engine access hole. Once done with lubing its hub, set up this damper on its hooked position as placed on the crankshaft by gluing together a washer and bolt. Use a hammer instead if necessary to push through. Finally, your way back around to cooling system service steps before adding enough coolant for testing any possible leakages.

    Q:
How to remove and install Crankshaft Pulley in 5.0L V8 engine on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the fan shroud, first detach the bolts connecting it to the radiator and reposition the shroud over the fan. Next, take out the fan/clutch assembly along with the shroud, followed by the drivebelts. Mark the crankshaft pulley and vibration damper for reassembly in their original positions, as they are balanced together. Unbolt and remove the pulley, ensuring to mark it and the vibration damper beforehand; the large vibration damper bolt may be tight, so a six-point socket and breaker bar are recommended for loosening. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, preventing it from turning by wedging a large screwdriver between the teeth of the starter ring gear against the transmission housing. Use a puller to detach the vibration damper, ensuring it applies force only to the hub to avoid damage. Clean the crankshaft nose and seal contact surface of the vibration damper, keeping the Woodruff key in the crankshaft keyway. For installation, lubricate the oil seal contact surface of the vibration damper hub with grease or clean engine oil, aligning the keyway with the Woodruff key. If necessary, use a large washer and bolt to pull the damper into place, or gently tap it with a soft-face hammer or a block of wood. Tighten the bolt to the specified torque, then complete the remaining steps in reverse order of removal. Finally, add coolant, check the oil level, and run the engine to inspect for any leaks.

    Q:
How should the pulley be removed for the 1994 Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
    A:
Unbolt and remove the pulley. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft. Mark the pulley and vibration damper before removing the four pulley bolts. The large vibration damper bolt is usually very tight, so use a six-point socket and a breaker bar to loosen it. You'll most likely have to prevent the crankshaft from turning.

    Q:
How should the vibration damper be installed for the 1985 Lincoln Mark VII? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lubricate the oil seal contact surface of the vibration damper hub with multi-purpose grease or clean engine oil, then install the damper on the end of the crankshaft. The keyway in the damper must be aligned with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft nose. If the damper cannot be seated by hand, slip the large washer over the bolt, install the bolt and tighten it to pull the damper into place. An alternative method that can be used is to use a soft face/dead blow hammer or a wood block and a steel hammer to drive the damper into place.

How do you detach the vibration damper from the crankshaft for the 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, and using a suitable puller, detach the vibration damper. After the bolt has been removed, use a puller that bolts to the damper to remove the damper from the end of the crankshaft. Leave the Woodruff key in place in the crankshaft keyway.
