Q:
How to replace brake pads on Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the brake pads, first remove the cover from the brake fluid reservoir and siphon out about 1/2 of the brake fluid. Then, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle on jackstands, and remove the wheels. Proceed to work on one brake assembly at a time, inspecting the brake disc carefully. For 1970 and 1971 models, remove the master cylinder cap, check the fluid level, and remove about half of the fluid. Remove the inner shoe hold-down clips, outer brake pad retaining clips, caliper locating pins, and upper stabilizer. Lift the caliper assembly from the anchor plate, remove the outer pad, and depress the piston into the caliper with a C-clamp. For 1972 through 1979 models, follow the specific steps for pad replacement. For 1980 and later models, depress the caliper piston with a C-clamp, remove the caliper and old pads, and install the new pads. Reinstall the caliper and tighten the caliper bolts to the specified torque. Firmly depress the brake pedal a few times to bring the pads into contact with the disc and check the brake fluid level. For 1998 and later models with two-piston front calipers, follow specific pad replacement advice. For rear disc brake pads, depress the caliper piston, remove the old pads, and install the new ones, making sure they are fully seated. Finally, reinstall the caliper and tighten the caliper bolts to the specified torque.

Q:
How to replace brake pads on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
A:
Some 1995 and later models have modifications in their front brake caliper and brake pads, where the pads are no longer secured by retaining clips but are indexed into and out of the caliper anchor plate. In 1998 and later models, a new two-piston front caliper is introduced. To replace the brake pads, begin by removing the brake fluid reservoir cover and siphoning out approximately half of the brake fluid. Loosen the lug nuts, raise and secure the vehicle on jackstands, and remove the wheels. Inspect the brake disc, and if machining is needed, follow the appropriate steps to remove the disc, allowing access to the pads. Remove the caliper mounting bolts, and if the disc is too worn, depress the caliper piston into its bore to clear the ridge around the disc's circumference. Remove the caliper and brake pad assembly, noting specific steps depending on the model year. Depress the caliper piston fully into its bore using a C-clamp and the old brake pad. Then, replace the inner and outer brake pads as appropriate, making sure they are fully seated. Apply thread locking compound to the caliper bolt threads and grease to the sliding-surface portion of the caliper bolts. On some models, hang the caliper from the upper control arm with a wire. Tighten the caliper bolts securely, depress the brake pedal to bring the pads into contact with the disc, check the brake fluid level, and top it off if needed.
