    Q:
How do you disconnect and reconnect the speedometer and instrument cluster components on Mercury Lynx? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the nut on the negative terminal of the battery and remove that wire, next unscrew the speedometer cable and take out the instrument cluster. Subsequently, it is necessary to separate the lens assembly from the instrument cluster while the gauge assembly and the speedometer head assembly are to be detached from the instrument cluster back plate. Place the speedometer head assembly into the instrument cluster back plate, then place the gauge assembly, then the lens assembly to the instrument cluster. Replace the instrument cluster assembly, install the speedometer cable and lastly the negative terminal of the battery.

    Q:
How do you remove the instrument cluster on Mercury Lynx? Posted by Customer
    A:
For models from 197I through 1985, begin the process of fum eccentric operation by removal of the battery negative terminal. Next, you will unscrew two retaining screws that can be found at the bottom of the steering column opening and then un snap the steering column cover and then remove it. Go further to undo the four screws that hold the cluster opening finish panel and thereafter take the panel off. Subsequently, you have to take out two screw at the top of the cluster and two at the bottom that bolsters the cluster to the instrument panel. get to the position where is situated under the instrument panel and by using your fingers push on the flat part of the quick disconnect plastic connecotr and remove the speedometer cable from the instrument cluster. In order to remove the instrument cluster, one has to partly pull it out and then disconnect the electrical connectors for the cluster. For installation the steps should be taken in the reverse order to the removal procedure. For the remaining models from 1986 and onwards the processes starts off just like above to input the negative battery connection. Both the retaining screws at the lower part of the steering post opening have to be unscrewed, and then the steering post opening cover can be snapped out, and finally, the total ten screws for the cluster opening special finish panels. There are four screws, two capping the upper part and two capping the lower part of the cluster, and one additional screw to remove the cluster from the speedometer cable pinned under the instrument panel. Partially pull the instrument cluster out, then disconnect it electrically and remove it-the procedure for installation is the same as for its removal.
