Ford Bronco II Ignition Lock Cylinder

In Ford Bronco II automobiles, the Ignition Lock Cylinder meets the basic purpose of enabling the driver to start the vehicle by just inserting a key and rotating it. This component is in the ignition switch whereby power from the battery required for the various circuits is provided upon insertion of the right key. The particular features of the Ford Bronco II Ignition Lock Cylinder are the tumbler system, which will perform the function of a key, allowing only the owner's key to start the car. Through the years, Ford Bronco II cars have had different styles of the Ignition Lock Cylinders with emphasis on security and durability. While earlier models incorporated normal key, which can be operated through the key by twisting, further improvements brought about coded keys in the early 1980s that speak to the car's computer to guarantee that nobody is starting it except you. However, issues such as wear and mechanical failure can still occur with the Ignition Lock Cylinder thus making it hard to start the car or causing an abrupt shutdown of the car's engine.

Rotate the lock cylinder to the RUN position, and then using a ¼ in. Using 3mm diameter pin or small drift punch tap the holes of 4 o'clock and 1¼ inch. Move the lock cylinder 31.75mm from the outer edge of the lock cylinder housing so as to depress the retaining pin and then remove the lock cylinder. Lubriplate or equivalent should be applied to the cylinder cavity and the drive gear For installation, the lock cylinder should be turned to the RUN position the retaining pin should be depressed and locked into position in the housing should be aligned properly. Insert the ignition key in the lock cylinder and turn it to feel correct mechanical operation, rejoin the electrical connector and grounding the car battery. Last, check that all ignition functions are operative and the column locks in the LOCK position before reinstalling the trims. Starting with the 1989-90 models untwist the negative battery cable and next remove the steering wheel and only if equipped, the tilt lever. Take off the steering column collar and the I/P trim cover, then unbolt the two screws found at the lower part of the steering column shroud, and then quickly take off both the halves of the shroud. For operation in flow the key should be in the ON position and the selector lever should be in PARK position in case of vehicle that has automatic transmission then lock cylinder retaining pin should be pushed down and lock cylinder has to be pulled away from the column housing. Remove the lock cylinder wiring plug, grease the cylinder cavity, insert the lock cylinder into its housing so that the tab fits into the slot on the ignition drive gear. It also rotates the lock cylinder for proper functioning, connects the key-warning wire plug, reassembles the steering-column lower shroud and steering wheel, and tests for proper vehicle operation in PARK/NEUTRAL and check that the start circuitry can be accessed only in DRIVE/REVERSE, turning the key to the OFF position to release the retaining pin.
