How to check the balljoints on Ford Crown Victoria?

To check the balljoints, ensure front wheel bearings are adjusted correctly on 1988-1991 models. Clean grease fitting and checking surface, check if it projects outside the cover. Raise vehicle, support with floor jacks under lower control arms, check for axial movement using prybar under tire; replace if exceeds 3/64-inch. Check for radial play by moving tire toward and away from vehicle by hand; replace if exceeds 1/64-inch. Replacement procedures vary by model and year. For 1997-2002 models, lower balljoints are replaceable with special press tool. For upper balljoints, on 1988-1991 models, replace upper control arm if damaged or worn. On 1992-2002 models, raise vehicle, remove wheel, use floor jack under lower control arm to support spring load, remove pinch bolt and nut from upper balljoint stud, mark adjustment cam positions, remove nuts attaching upper balljoint to upper control arm, and remove upper balljoint assembly. Installation process is reverse of removal with proper alignment and torque tightening. For 2003 and later models, replace upper control arm.
