Q: How do you remove and install a wheel hub and bearing assembly on Ford Crown Victoria?
A: The manufacturer recommends replacing the hub retaining nut anytime it is removed. Start by removing the wheel cover (if applicable). Remove the dust cap and break loose the hub and bearing assembly retaining nut with a 1/2-inch drive breaker bar and socket. Use a "cheater" bar or pipe if necessary. Don't remove the nut yet. Next, loosen the wheel lug nuts. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the brake caliper and the disc. On 1988 through 2002 models, remove the hub and bearing assembly retaining nut and remove the hub and bearing assembly. If the assembly cannot be removed by hand, use a suitable hub puller. Caution: On models equipped with ABS brakes, be careful not to damage the ABS sensor or sensor ring when removing the hub. On 2003 and later models, remove the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts on the backside of the Steering Knuckle and remove the hub assembly. If the hub assembly is seized to the steering knuckle, use a suitable hub puller. Installation is the reverse of removal. After the vehicle is back on the ground, be sure to tighten the wheel lug nuts to the torque Specifications and the hub and bearing assembly retaining nuVbolts to the torque.
