Q: How to remove and install a A/C Accumulator on Ford Escape?
A: Before proceeding, have the air conditioning system discharged by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning shop. For 2007 and earlier models, disconnect the air conditioning pressure cycling switch electrical connector and use special spring lock coupling tools to disconnect the condenser line from the accumulator and the line from the accumulator to the evaporator. Cap the lines to prevent contamination and remove the old O-rings. Remove the accumulator by taking off the mounting bracket nuts. Replace all old O-rings, coating them with refrigerant oil before installing the new ones. Installation is the reverse of removal, and don't forget to take the vehicle to the shop that discharged it to have the system evacuated and recharged. For 2008 and later models, remove the front bumper cover. Disconnect the refrigerant outlet line from the condenser, and disconnect the wiring and outlet line from the receiver/drier. Remove the receiver/drier by taking off the mounting nuts. Replace the O-rings, gasket, and seal, coating them with refrigerant oil before installation. Installation is the reverse of removal, and again, have the system evacuated and recharged by a shop that discharged it.
