How to replace the fuel filter in gasoline and diesel engines on Ford Excursion?

For gasoline engines, the fuel filter is typically beneath the vehicle on the inside of the left frame rail. Inspect hose fittings for cleanliness and clean if needed. Relieve fuel system pressure, remove fuel lines from the filter using safety clips and a fuel line disconnect tool. Carefully pull hoses off the filter, check clips for damage. Reattach hoses to new filter, ensuring secure fastening. Replace old filter with new one, paying attention to installation direction. Start engine, check for fuel leaks. In diesel engines, fuel filter is often on top of the engine. Remove engine cover, relieve fuel system pressure. Unscrew filter housing cover, remove filter and O-ring. Use syringe or baster to eliminate remaining fuel. Clean housing, coat O-ring with clean diesel fuel. Install new filter, seat O-ring, install cover, tighten appropriately.
