For gasoline engines, the fuel filter is typically beneath the vehicle on the inside of the left frame rail. Inspect hose fittings for cleanliness and clean if needed. Relieve fuel system pressure, remove fuel lines from the filter using safety clips and a fuel line disconnect tool. Carefully pull hoses off the filter, check clips for damage. Reattach hoses to new filter, ensuring secure fastening. Replace old filter with new one, paying attention to installation direction. Start engine, check for fuel leaks. In diesel engines, fuel filter is often on top of the engine. Remove engine cover, relieve fuel system pressure. Unscrew filter housing cover, remove filter and O-ring. Use syringe or baster to eliminate remaining fuel. Clean housing, coat O-ring with clean diesel fuel. Install new filter, seat O-ring, install cover, tighten appropriately. Start engine, check for fuel leaks. For 6.0L diesel models, there's a primary filter in the fuel conditioning module that should be replaced as needed. Raise vehicle, relieve fuel system pressure, locate fuel conditioning module forward of fuel tank on left frame rail. Drain fuel, remove cover, replace fuel filter cartridge, inspect and replace O-ring if necessary before reassembly.
