During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts. Begin by raising the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large block of wood between the jack head and the oil pan, carefully raising the engine just enough to relieve the weight on the mounts. Inspect the mounts for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates, noting that the rubber may split down the center. Check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine, transmission, or frame/body using a large screwdriver or prybar; if excess movement is observed, new mount isolators will be necessary. For front mount replacement, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, then place a wood block and a jack under the engine. Remove the upper and lower nut and washer assemblies from the insulator assembly, and raise the engine just enough to allow clearance for the removal of the mount insulator and heat shield if equipped, with installation being the reverse of removal.
