A: Before removing the water pump, make sure to disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system. For 2007 and earlier models with a 3.5L V6 engine, detach the thermostat housing and bypass tube coolant hose and take out the mounting bolts before moving it aside. First, unscrew and remove the center mounting bolt then discard the sealing washer. Finally, remove the water pump ensuring all traces of gasket and sealant are cleaned off. In 2008 and later models with this engine, you have to remove the timing chain to access the water pump itself. As for 2.0L four-cylinder engines, plastic must be used to cover accessory drive belt. Afterward, you should proceed by removing each of these pulley bolts that are on top of water pumps which eventually lead to removal itself. Ensure that all old gasket material is removed as well before re-installing new ones on place after applying a thin film of RTV sealant securing these new gaskets as well as O-rings by coating them using clean coolant. For 2007 and earlier 3.5L V6 models, tighten the water pump mounting bolts in order given attaching torque specifications.
