Ford Thunderbird Rack And Pinion

The Ford Thunderbird Rack And Pinion is an essential linkage style component that turns the rotational movement of the steering wheel into linear shift of the front wheels. The above is attained by a rack and pinion system whereby the pinion is mounted on a shaft implementing the steering column and the rack resides in a metallic housing fixed on the car frame. One of the changes that have occurred with rack and pinion over the years is that while most cars use hydraulic power assisted systems modern thunderbirds are not an exception. These hydraulic systems utilize a fluid to give power assist helping in the steering operation and feel. However, like all rack and pinion assemblies, Ford Thunderbird Steering Racks can experience some problems for instance; leakages that originate from the deteriorating O-ring seals or worn power steering hoses. Signs that one may be experiencing a faulty rack and pinion include a hard steering wheel, and a rattling sound that comes from the steering system, and loosely or erratically moving steering wheel. Sometimes, it may be required to completely change the gear by fixing the new rack and pinion assembly in order to regain the requisite steering control. Although there may be issues with rack and pinion systems, they are strongly related to accurate steering and response in Thunderbird vehicles.
