    Q:
How do you overhaul the rear calipers for the 1987 Lincoln Mark VII? Posted by Customer
    A:
To overhaul the rear calipers for 1991 and 1992 Mark VII, raise the vehicle, remove the rear wheels, and disconnect the parking brake cable. Disconnect the brake hose and remove the caliper from the anchor plate. Overhauling this type of caliper is challenging and requires special tools, so it is recommended to replace both rear calipers with new or rebuilt units if necessary. Reinstall the brake pads and caliper, adjusting the piston as needed. Install the slider pins and boots to the anchor plate, clean the threads of the pinch bolts, and apply thread-locking compound. Install the brake hose using new washers, and the remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Bleed the brake system to complete the process.

    Q:
How do you overhaul the rear calipers for the 1985 Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
    A:
To overhaul the rear calipers for 1975 through 1990 Continental and Mark series and 1981 through 1988 Town Car, start by raising the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels and disconnect the parking brake cable at the lever. Disconnect the brake hose and plug the end. Remove the calipers, and if necessary, loosen the caliper and retainer to force the piston back into its bore. Clean and inspect the caliper, anchor plate, and disc for corrosion, wear, and fluid leakage. Reinstall the brake pads and caliper, adjusting the piston as needed. Connect and adjust the parking brake cable, install the wheels, and take the vehicle for a test drive to check for proper braking action.

    Q:
How should the brake hose be handled during caliper removal, and why might the caliper be suspended with wire for the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
    A:
Unscrew the brake hose banjo bolt and detach the hose from the caliper, replacing the sealing washers with new ones. If the caliper won't be entirely removed, leave the hose connected and suspend the caliper with wire to avoid the need for brake system bleeding.
