    Perform transmission fluid replacement after engine has cooled. Get recommended fluid, new drain plug, new filter, and new gasket if needed. Use jackstands, drain pan, newspapers, and rags. Elevate vehicle, place drain pan, remove drain plug or pan bolts, drain fluid. Clean gasket surface, clean pan, replace filter. Install new seal, filter, and gasket. Attach pan, tighten bolts. Remove torque converter cover, drain fluid, install new plug, lower vehicle. Add 6-1/2 quarts of fluid, start engine, shift gears, check fluid level. Check for leaks, add fluid if needed.

    Clean the gasket surface of the transmission to remove all remnants of the old gasket and sealant. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan, clean it with solvent, and thoroughly dry it. Upon initial service, you may find a plastic plug in the bottom of the pan, which was used to keep contamination out during assembly. Discard this plug. Remove the old filter from the transmission. If the filter seal didn't come out with the filter, remove it carefully without damaging the seal bore. Install a new seal and filter.
