Assemble the universal joint as described in paragraphs 8, 9, and 10 of the outer snap-ring type section, noting that the snap-rings are installed on the inside of the yokes on this type of joint.

Universal joints are mechanical couplings that connect two rotating components that meet each other at different angles.

The steps are as follows: 1. Remove the driveshaft and snap-rings from the spider. 2. Place the driveshaft on a workbench equipped with a vise. 3. Use a pipe or large socket to press out the bearing caps. 4. Transfer the sockets to the other side and press out the opposite bearing cap. 5. Pack the new universal joint bearings with grease. 6. Position the spider in the yoke. 7. Install the bearing caps and snap-rings. 8. Fill the joint with grease. 9. Reinstall the driveshaft.

Using a small pair of pliers or needle-nose pliers.

The first type of universal joint is constructed with a single joint retained to its yoke with either internal or external snap-rings.

If any of the conditions indicating wear exist, replace the universal joints with new ones.

Partially install one cup into the yoke and insert the trunnion a little way into it. Partially install the opposite cup, center the trunnion, then, using the vise, press both cups into position using sockets of diameter slightly less than that of the bearing cups.
