    Q:
Is the removal of the instrument panel a difficult procedure not recommended for the home mechanic on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is quite complicated to remove the instrument panel as there are many hidden screws and bolts and wires and connectors which has to be located and disconnected before the pulling out of the instrument panel. Before the disconnection process begins one should take notes and digital pictures of the devices indicated above. In the absence of proper skills and experience, and if you cannot enlist the service of an assistant, it is advisable to get this done at dealership. First, secure the column or pin it straight ahead and then unbolt or release the steering wheel. In the engine compartment, there are two retaining tabs that can be released to move aside the fuse box, and also it is necessary to open the hood and disconnect the connectors that are connected to the instrument cluster. Lift out of the boat the hood release handle and parking brake control from the instrument panel and, if so equipped, the center console. It is easier to gain such access so consider to start by taking out the front seats if that is possible. Next, please take off the knee bolster from under the steering column; in the case of a four-wheel-drive car, move the transfer case stick forward. Pull out the Stealth thing near the gear shift, take out the connector above the brake pedal near the booster pushrod and the latent connector above the clutch pedal. Free the steering column from the crossmember and, with considerable caution, lower it to the floor; next, remove the bracket to the immediate right of the accelerator pedal. Disconnect the trim covers at the bottom of the door jam, the kick panels and on the A pillar interior trim on both left and right side of the car. Open the passenger compartment fuse panel located on the left side of the instrument panel, and remove the electrical connectors located at the back of the centre, right and left side of the instrument panel. Located inside the fuse box opening, two bolts anchoring the IP to the cowl must be undone; in addition, there is one bolt at the right bottom corner of the IP as viewed by the pilot. If installed, pull out the sound deadener beneath the lower right of the instrument panel Pull the edge of the defroster grille carefully upward and remove its clips. Turn and secures up the center to nuts that hold the four saddles on the top of the panel, dis-connect, and unmount the last remaining electrical connectors. Make sure that the panel is fully removed from the car prior to lifting it out and for the best results get an assistant. Unlike during removal, installation is done in the reverse order to that used in removal.
