Perform transmission fluid replacement after engine has cooled. Get recommended fluid, new drain plug, new filter, and new gasket if needed. Use jackstands, drain pan, newspapers, and rags. Elevate vehicle, place drain pan, remove drain plug or pan bolts, drain fluid. Clean gasket surface, clean pan, replace filter. Install new seal, filter, and gasket. Attach pan, tighten bolts. Remove torque converter cover, drain fluid, install new plug, lower vehicle. Add 6-1/2 quarts of fluid, start engine, shift gears, check fluid level. Check for leaks, add fluid if needed.

The transmission fluid should be drained and replaced at specified intervals. Perform this procedure only after the engine has completely cooled down to ensure safety.

Lower the vehicle and add four quarts of automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. With the transmission in Park and the parking brake set, run the engine at a fast idle (avoid racing it). Move the gear selector through each range and back to Park. Check the fluid level and add more fluid if necessary to reach the correct level.

The plastic plug found in the transmission pan during initial service should be discarded. This plug was used to keep contamination out of the transmission while on the assembly line.

Check under the vehicle for leaks during the first few trips.

Clean the gasket surface of the transmission to remove all remnants of the old gasket and sealant. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan, clean it with solvent, and thoroughly dry it. Upon initial service, you may find a plastic plug in the bottom of the pan, which was used to keep contamination out during assembly. Discard this plug. Remove the old filter from the transmission. If the filter seal didn't come out with the filter, remove it carefully without damaging the seal bore. Install a new seal and filter.
