    Q:
How do you start overhauling the front calipers for the 1984 Lincoln Town Car? Posted by Customer
    A:
To overhaul the front calipers and 1989 and later Town Car rear calipers, start by raising the vehicle, supporting it on jackstands, and removing the wheels. Disconnect the brake hose banjo bolt and detach the hose from the caliper, ensuring no air enters the hydraulic control unit on ABS-equipped models. Clean the caliper exterior with brake system cleaner and place it on a clean workbench. Use compressed air with caution to remove the piston from the caliper and proceed to remove the dust boot and piston seal. Inspect the piston and caliper bore for damage, corrosion, or wear. Clean all parts with brake system cleaner and reassemble with new seals, bolt insulators, and caliper bolts if necessary. Lubricate with brake fluid and install the piston, dust boot, and caliper bolt insulators. Finally, follow the caliper installation procedure, connect the brake hose, bleed the brakes, and test the brake operation before placing the vehicle into normal service.

    Q:
How do you overhaul the rear calipers for the 1986 Lincoln Mark VII? Posted by Customer
    A:
To overhaul the rear calipers for 1991 and 1992 Mark VII, raise the vehicle, remove the rear wheels, and disconnect the parking brake cable. Disconnect the brake hose and remove the caliper from the anchor plate. Overhauling this type of caliper is challenging and requires special tools, so it is recommended to replace both rear calipers with new or rebuilt units if necessary. Reinstall the brake pads and caliper, adjusting the piston as needed. Install the slider pins and boots to the anchor plate, clean the threads of the pinch bolts, and apply thread-locking compound. Install the brake hose using new washers, and the remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Bleed the brake system to complete the process.
