Lower the vehicle and add about four or five pints of automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. With the transmission in Park and the parking brake set, run the engine at a fast idle. Move the gear selector through each range and back to Park. Check the fluid level and add fluid if needed to reach the correct level.

Raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Place a drain pan in position, and then remove the front and side transmission pan mounting bolts.

Clean the gasket surface of the transmission to remove all remnants of the old gasket and sealant. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan, clean it with solvent, and thoroughly dry it. Upon initial service, you may find a plastic plug in the bottom of the pan, which was used to keep contamination out during assembly. Discard this plug. Remove the old filter from the transmission. If the filter seal didn't come out with the filter, remove it carefully without damaging the seal bore. Install a new seal and filter.

To remove the old filter, simply detach it from the transmission. If the filter seal did not come out with the filter, it should be removed from the transmission carefully without gouging the seal bore in any way.
