Q: How to remove and install a control arm on a Ford Escape?
A: Loosen wheel lug nuts, raise vehicle, support securely on jackstands, remove wheel. Remove pinch bolt securing ball joint to control arm. Use pry bar to disconnect control arm from Steering Knuckle. Remove nut and pry ball joint out of steering knuckle. Remove control arm front pivot bolt and rear mounting bolt. Check for distortion and wear, replace parts as needed. Do not straighten bent control arm. Installation is reverse of removal. Tighten all fasteners to torque values. Before tightening pivot bolt and rear bolt, raise control arm with floor jack to simulate normal ride height. Install wheel, lower vehicle, tighten lug nuts. Check and adjust front wheel alignment if necessary.
