Q: What is the location and function of the intake air temperature sensor on Ford Excursion?
A: The intake manifold temperature sensor is mounted in the air inlet system. Its exact location varies from year to year, but it always has two wires in its harness. The intake manifold temperature (IMT) sensor is a thermistor, which is a resistor that varies the value of its resistance in accordance with temperature changes. The change in resistance values will directly affect the voltage signal from the sensor to the PCM. As the sensor temperature decreases, the resistance values will increase. As the sensor temperature increases, the resistance values will decrease. A problem in any of the IMT sensor circuits will set a diagnostic trouble code. Make sure the ignition key is in the OFF position. Disconnect the electrical connector from the IMT sensor. Rotate the IMT sensor counterclockwise 1/4 turn and pull the IMT sensor from the air filter housing. Installation is the reverse of removal.
