Ford Taurus Trunk Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install a key lock cylinder and latch in a trunk lid on Ford Taurus?
A: In order to replace the key lock cylinder, to put the new rivets in the door one needs a special rivet installation tool. Start with the pull-down strap fasteners and the strap and then pry the pin type fasteners with a plastic trim tool and then pull out the trunk lid trim panel. Finally, some irregularities may occur when the trunk lid actuator cable is removed from the key lock cylinder, and the electrical connector disconnected from the lock cylinder is removed. Two rivets are to be drilled out separating the lock cylinder and it should be pulled out. For reinstallctions, removal should be done in the reverse order that they were done in. For the latch start with the removal of the trim panel and then you will have to unplug the electrical connectors of the trunk lid latch. After that, it is necessary to remove the latch mounting nuts and then the latch itself is to be removed. As mentioned earlier, reinstallation has to be done from right from the bottom and has to progress upwards in a sequential manner, that is, a process that is almost similar to that of removal in reverse.
