    Q:
What are spark plugs,Distributor Cap and Spark Plug Wire and how are they replaced on 1993-2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Spark plugs are fitted on the sides of the engine and for the 2.3L from 1993 to 1997 and the 2.5L from 1998 through 2001 four-cylinder models, there are eight plugs as each cylinder has two spark plugs. Getting to the spark plugs from the intake manifold side is tight and may call for detachment of the intake system and the use of tools. The manufacturer as usual gives a maximum replace interval for spark plugs depending on the engine model, which is about 60,000 miles for the latest models due to misfiring before the 100,000 mark. A socket late with numerous extensions, a gap gauge, and an optionally plug wire removal tool are required equipment for spark plug replacement. It is useful to buy replacement plugs ahead of time and pre-gap them to the correct size and to replace them in sets, using the plugs that are required in accordance with the Vehicle Emission Control Information label. Engine should be allowed to cool down before removal, and even the new plugs should be checked for faults. Periodically it should be checked with a gauge and if there is need for some bending, it should be done carefully to avoid damaging the side electrode. The plugs are available only for 2011 4.0L-V6 models, and the right front wheel has to be taken off in order to get to the plugs. When you are disconnecting the spark plug wires, make sure that you pull the boot only and then blow the debris using the compressed air in the hole for spark plug. After its withdrawal, such a plug has to be matched with a condition chart that reflects the engine's performance. New plugs should be threaded in by hand and tightened with torque wrench Tightening plugs-Rubber hose can be used as a tool and should be placed in a manner that it will not allow cross threading. Following twisting every plug, check and connect the plug wire and apply silicone dielectric compound on the inside of every boot before tightening. Cables of spark plugs should be inspected to see if there is any damage on them, any bad cables should be changed and when replacing them one should ensure that they connect them in the proper manner. On the 1993 and 1994 3.0L engine, the distributor cap is located at the rear of the engine, and will look like the cap and rotor showed here; the cap and rotor should be examined for cracks, carbon tracks, and corrosion, and replaced as needed. When replacing the cap, connect the spark plug wires one by one in order to avoid confusion, and after properly aligning make sure it is tightened.

    Q:
How to replace the Distributor Cap and spark plug wires on Ford Thunderbird? Posted by Customer
    A:
When changing the spark plug wires, apply a silicone dielectric compound inside each boot before reconnecting. Whenever putting in new spark plugs, make sure to inspect and if necessary change spark plug wires. While engine is running in a dark and well-ventilated garage visually check spark plug wires for arcing or sparks. Starting from the number one cylinder spark plug, inspect one wire at a time and mark each as needed for reinstallation. Disconnect and reattach individual wires carefully, ensuring proper fits as well as cleaning them thoroughly. Watch for burns, cracks, and damage by avoiding sharp bends. Each wire should be properly secured on distributor and spark plugs.

    Q:
How to check and replace the spark plug wires and Distributor Cap on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
Inspect the wires visually while the engine is running in a dark, well-ventilated garage to maintain spark plug wires. Watch out for arcs or sparks that indicate wear and tear on them. One cylinder at a time, examine the wires starting with number one and mark them accordingly. A wire can be disconnected without removing the wire itself by using a removal tool or twisting and pulling the rubber boot. Ensuring a tight fit, push the wire and boot onto the spark plug. The metal connector inside the boot should be crimped when required. Clean the wire with a rag; check for burns, cracks or damage and inspect for corrosion at distributor end and snug fitting. Replace damaged wires with those made for your engine model and replace one at a time so that you do not disturb firing order. Replace 1991 and earlier models' distributor cap and rotor if they are worn out, damaged or cracked or have carbon tracks or worn terminals.

    Q:
How to check and replace the Distributor Cap and Spark Plug Wire on Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
    A:
If you want to keep spark plug wires in excellent condition, always replace them when you change spark plugs. While the engine is running, just check for arcs or sparks in a well-ventilated garage. Start checking and labeling them one by one from the number one cylinder. Pull out the rubber boot by twisting it off or use a removal tool to separate wires from spark plugs. Attach the cables again tightly; pliers should be used where required. Clean off any dirt on these wire and examine them for burns, cracks or damages. Take off wires from the distributor, inspect for corrosion, and also replace any broken ones. This may involve putting in place new distributor cap and rotor, looking out for cracks, carbon tracks, worn terminals and corrosion. Apply silicon dielectric compound on single point rotors tip and replace cap and rotor when defects are found on them.

    Q:
How to replace spark plug wires and inspect the distributor cap and rotor on Ford Bronco? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, it is important to apply silicone dielectric compound to the inside of each boot when replacing spark plug wires. In a well-ventilated garage with poor lighting, watch the wires while the engine is running for any arcing or sparking. Mark each wire for reinstallation and disconnect it by twisting and pulling off the boot using a removal tool. Check them thoroughly for cracks or burns. Replace them one by one in the correct firing order. Look out for carbon tracks, cracks, and worn terminals as you replace the distributor cap and rotor. When fitting a new cap, transfer the wires across individually to avoid confusion.
