Q: How do you remove and replace an alternator in a Ford Fusion?
A: Disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the drive belt. For 2.0L models, remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt, and CAC lower pipe, and move the compressor. For 2.5L models, remove the right front wheel and splash shield. Disengage the alternator lower cooling duct and remove the battery harness clip and the alternator. Remove the alternator upper mounting stud nut and the alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2.7L V6 models, remove the air conditioning compressor and mounting bracket, drive belt tensioner, and alternator fasteners. If replacing the alternator, ensure it's identical to the old one, including electrical terminals and ID numbers. You might need to swap the pulley from the old unit to the new one. Reinstall in reverse order, reconnect the negative battery terminal, and check the charging voltage.
