Lincoln Continental Timing Cover

The Timing Cover found on Lincoln Continental automobiles plays the part of protecting an engine's timing assembly that might need a timing belt, timing chain, or a cam belt. Made from materials like aluminum, plastic or steel, Timing Cover shields the internal components from dynamics that may bring destruction. A lot of the covers come with gaskets that improve the defense of the timing belt. As will be evidenced in the following sections, the Lincoln Continental models have over the years incorporated different styles of Timing Covers, all of which serve the same protective role. While these covers are so designed to last long, they may develop faults at obscure times and thus should be replaced in good time to guarantee safe use of the vehicles. It is imperative that the Timing Cover be given proper care and that it be maintained on a regular basis, in order that the timing system of the engine is protected and can function properly thereby increasing its lifespan.

We provide a wide range of Lincoln Continental Timing Cover at the best prices possible. If you need Lincoln Continental Timing Cover, you can shop with confidence on our website. All our OEM parts come with a manufacturer's warranty and are delivered to your door step with a fast delivery service.

Lincoln Continental Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do I remove the timing chain cover on Lincoln Continental Overhead valve (OHV)engines?
A: To take off the Timing Cover, start by doing all of the water pump removal procedures up to actually removing the pump. Drain oil from the engine, remove the oil filter, disconnect and cap off fuel inlet hose at fuel pump outlet, and remove crankshaft vibration damper. On 7.5L (460 cid) engine slide the crankshaft sleeve off and remove the left-over Timing Cover-to-block bolts. Remove all accessory brackets that are attached to Timing Cover. From beneath the vehicle, cut flush with a razor knife oil pan gasket on its face against an engine block then unbolt oil pan-to-Timing Cover bolts. Take out remaining bolts and lightly tap Timing Cover loose using a soft-faced hammer. For installation purposes remove circular rubber seal from front of oil pan replace it with rag such as shop one in oil pan opening. Prepare all surfaces, cut two sections from new oil pan gasket apply them to oil pan using gasket contact adhesive. Use ATV sealant for sealing between oil pan and block joints while installing circular rubber seal in cutout on oil pan bottom surface. Lubricate timing chain and crankshaft front oil seal lips; apply ATV sealant to cover gasket then position it on engine. Apply ATV sealant to where Oil Pan, Block and Timing Cover meet each other. Use Teflon pipe sealant for threads' application before installing bolts so that gaskets/seals remain intact within their respective places. While aligning cover with either damper or sleeve tighten bolts finally tightening cover-to-block bolts again; this is after tightening them as necessary after aligning them with either damper or sleeve which may be necessary for proper torque application. Remove vibration damper; reinstall remaining parts in reverse order; add engine coolant & motor-oil then operate engine checking for leakage.
  • Q: How to remove the timing chain cover on Lincoln Continental Overhead cam (OHC) engine?
A: Begin by removing the negative battery cable to pull off the Timing Cover. After that, take out the oil filter after draining away the engine oil. Then, remove the water pump pulley, drivebelt, and crankshaft pulley respectively. You should also disconnect the camshaft and crankshaft sensors as well as DIS modules. In addition, the power steering pump bolts are taken off and moved aside. Besides, there is a need to remove the accessory drive belt idler as well as valve covers at both ends. Moreover, Timing Cover bolts as well as the ones under the Oil Pan will be removed. Finally, use your soft hammer to gently tap it free from its place on the block to separate it from there. The next step is to apply RTV sealant into it and lubricate the timing chains plus the crankshaft oil seal. For instance, the front cover should be installed closely before the bolt are tightened over it.
