Q: How to check the Fuel Pump and fuel pressure on Ford Crown Victoria?
A: First of all, to perform a fuel pressure test, you will need a gauge and adaptor set. The fuel pump operates when the engine is cranking or running and shuts off without ignition pulses. After relieving pressure, cover fuel connections with a towel. To inspect the fuel system, listen for a whirring sound at the fuel filler opening when turning the ignition on, if absent, check the fuse, relay, and circuitry. For older models, attach a gauge to the test port and check pressure with and without the engine running. For newer models use a tee-in gauge to measure pressure between hose and rail. After each test, depressurize the system and reconnect components.
Q: How to replace the fuel pump in Ford Crown Victoria?
A: For models made in 1995 or earlier, siphon the remaining fuel from the tank, release pressure from the pump, disconnect the battery, lift the vehicle securely, unplug all fuel lines and electrical connectors, rotate the lock ring anti-clockwise, take out pump assembly then clean strainer before reinstalling it with a new seal ring. However, on 1996 and later models you will need to remove the Fuel Tank and mounting bolts to lift out the pump assembly, which no longer requires using the old seal but one should consider checking the strainer's cleanliness as well as replacing or cleaning the pump itself, before putting back the flange mountings and tank surfaces can be cleaned together with ensuring that there is fresh grease for this new installation.
